Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens

As part of the launch for the new Bunka Centre at Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens, we were asked to put together a video of the gardens throughout the seasons. The video is a permanent installation and projection mapped to fit a beautiful curved screen. Imagery of the gardens is stacked on top one another, fading in and out to a soundtrack composed by a local musician. 

We designed an AR app that allows users to explore a 3D modelled version of the gardens. Users point the tablet’s camera at a flat surface, and the 3D model will rise up, where users can move the camera around and zoom in and out. Important landmarks throughout the gardens are highlighted and described.
